Honesty

Honesty is a good quality to have. And perhaps one of the best qualities that one can have. Honesty is the cornerstone of a healthy relationship between two individuals. It can make the relationship evolve and grow to deeper levels. In my mind there are two ways honesty manifests. One is in action and secondly in thought.

  • Action: Most people know honesty in action and try to follow it in their lives. That is what they do and say.
  • Thought: Honesty in thinking involves for example, to face the thoughts you have about yourself, and being present in conversations etc.

When these two are in balance you are truly honest. That is when action and thought reflect each other. It is dishonest to act in one way but to think the opposite for example to say you like someone when you really loathe them.

How can I become honest in thought?

First you need to know if you are in fact honest in your thoughts. Here are some pointers I’ve found out.

  • Work. Do love what you do? How do you feel about your job? Are you exited to go to work every morning? If not you might be blocking yourself to do what you really love doing.
  • In conversation. When you speak to people, is your attention 100% on the conversation? Or are you thinking about something else like what you should have for dinner?

The benefits of being honest are that all communication you have, become much easier and comfortable. Your self confidence grows and other people have more faith in you. And that is one of the key elements of success.

Try it out and listen to your thoughts when you go about your day. Are you truly honest?
