How to help someone to feel a little better

Every once in a while someone close to us feel down. This, of course, has an impact on us and that is our duty to help in any way that we can. There are a lot of ways to cheer up people and help them to get in a good mood. I try to use three ways that have been useful to me in life. They are:

Being present – Time is the most precious thing that we can give. It usually helps the one that is sad to know that someone loves him or her enough to give his time.

Listen – To sincerely listen is also a valuable gift. Let go of all thoughts about giving advice. Because often when we are giving advice (usually meaning well) the outcome is that we are putting the one down. Just listen with your heart!

Compliment – A little compliment can do miracles. It usually helps the one that’s feeling sad to see a little light in their life and also to see his or her qualities rather than the defects.
