What do I need to have a positive attitude?

361bBeing positive is a great state of mind. When you have a positive attitude all communication becomes easier, you‘ll be energized and in harmony with life. I think there are three basic factors that can affect your positivity. These factors don’t make you positive but it’s harder to maintain a positive attitude without them.

  • Good health
  • Enough money to lead a good life
  • Courage and will to grow and develop as an individual.

Good health is very important because it can be hard to be positive if your health is in bad shape or some kind of sickness is bothering you. Also you need enough  money for living, poverty can easily terminate any positive thinking. Maybe the most important factor is the will and courage to grow as an individual. Where there is will, there is a way!

With that said positivity is something that you can always find even though you have a terminal disease or living on the street. It’s a mindset is that you decide for yourself.

What can help me on my way to positive thinking?

  • Take responsibility for your life. You and you alone have control over your thinking so stop blaming your negativity on something or somebody else.
  • Demand positive thinking. When negativity crawls up to you, replace those thoughts with something positive. See the positive side of the situation, there is always a positive side, believe me.
  • Choose the people you are around. Don’t feed the negativity monster by listening or talking to people who are in a negative mental state. Of course you don’t have to block them from your life, but you can choose to leave or change the conversation if it’s to negative. Surround yourself with positive people, because we become a lot like the people we spend the most time with.
  • When you read, listen or watch something, look at it as something you eat. What is going into your mind? Is it negative and demolishing or something positive and inspiring?

Being positive is an ongoing battle, but it becomes easier and easier when you practice positive thinking everyday and focus on the bright side of life.

How to organize your week?

I recently wrote a post called how to organize my day. I wanted to write more about the topic of organizing. Now I’m going to share with you how I organize my week.

It’s much easier to organize your week than your day because usually there are the same wonderful tasks week after week, like laundry, doing the dishes, grocery-shopping etc. That’s why the only thing you really need to do is to put some kind of a frame around these tasks.

There are many benefits of organizing your week. For example, you become much more productive and your mind-clutter is much less because you know what you have to do, and when.

So how do you organize your week?

Write the tasks down. Put down on a piece of paper or on your computer all the tasks you do every week.

Start slowly. Don’t over clutter your week. It’s much better to put fewer task at the beginning and then add more when you get comfortable with the ones you already have.

Give time to every task. Some tasks take more of your time than others. For example, Doing laundry could take the whole day, or maybe two days, if you have a large family. While doing the dishes usually takes about half an hour. But you have to do the dishes more frequently.

Give the task your full attention. When you take on your tasks give them all of your attention, don’t think about the other ones.

Be patient. Give yourself some time to get used to the new routine. It always takes time to get comfortable with new habits.

This is how I organize my week and this ways work just brilliant for me. Although it took some time for me to get into this routine, but when I got there, it was great! It’s so much easier not having to think about the pile of tasks you need to do. They all have their time and place in your week.

Minor changes, BIG difference

I watched this video from Tony Robbins some days ago. Tony had been playing golf with his golf instructor. To make a long story short, It didn’t go all that well for Tony and he was getting quite frustrated. Tony got pretty mad at the man and blamed him for being a bad instructor.

Then the golf instructor told something to Mr. Robbins, You’re really just a few millimeters from getting good hits. And Tony thought by himself, what a great believe system. When everything is going crazy around you and everything you do seems to be wrong to think; I only a few millimeters off.

I got very inspired watching this video, to have this believe system that when something just isn’t working, instead of giving up, try to think; I’m just a few millimeters off, and then trying to change something a little bit.

Please watch this video and tell me what you think

Reducing your stress

Stress is a kind of decease in modern times and no wonder we are so stressed. The pressure related to work has boosted because of increased demand of education among other things. If you don’t follow the rest you’re bound fall of the train. Also we have a higher standard of living and to meet it we have to work more and the time we can spend with our family and friends becomes less and less. We try to make it up by buying stuff like video games, TV’s and DVD or Blue-ray players. Those things cost so we have to work even harder to afford them, which then again means less time for our family.

This circle screams out for stress. It often seems to me that stress is a default setting for the modern human. To be busy and to have a lot to do is often considered a quality in modern communities. In spite of this I like to see the bright side of it. I took together some of the things I do to reduce stress in my life.

Meditate. This is a cornerstone in my life, you can read more on my thoughts on meditation here.

Early rising. When I make it a habit to wake up earlier I feel like I’ve gained some extra time. It’s unbelievable how much you can accomplish when you wake up a little earlier.

Watch your breathing. This is something you can do anytime, anywhere. How am I breathing right now? Is it deep and slow or fast and shallow? Try to take slow and deep breaths whenever you find stress growing inside you.

Organize your day in advance. Read more about organizing here.

Drink less of Coffee and other drinks that include Caffeine. This explains itself.

Practice Yoga. It has good effect on your health, reduces your stress and is helpful to control your breathing.

Live one day at a time. Good sentence that has a deep meaning. Another one is Live and let live, don’t take on the worries and troubles of others.

Learn to say no. This can be a problem for many people. We don’t want to be rude or seem lazy. Know your limits.

Simplify your life. There are countless ways to simplify your life. Here are some of the things I do to simplify my life.

Have wonderful and a stress-free day!

Facing our fears

I have noticed that people often say; “That’s just the way I am” or “I could never do that”. Often this is said in relation to something that people are scared of or something they think they can’t handle. It seems to be a habit to say and decide that “it just can’t be done by me”.

I started wondering why people do this. Maybe it’s a way to stay in our comfort zone.

Let´s take my mother for an example. She was always so afraid in an airplane when it was taking off. She would hold her head and rock back and forth, like if she was really going insane. One time when we were flying together she got a newspaper that she read while the other passengers got seated. In it she saw an obituary about a man that she knew. The plane was getting ready to take off and my mother also started getting ready for her “take off pose”. I decided to do a little experiment, to draw her attention from the plane taking off and to something else like the obituary. I started to ask her numerous questions about the man that had died how she knew him and I got her to tell me stories about the man. Before we knew we were in the air and she had not been scared at all. I pointed this out to her and she was incredibly surprised because there was not even a hint of fright in her when she was busy talking about the man. After this experience she has never been afraid at take off. This is just a little example of something she had convinced herself off, this is just the way I am, I’m always afraid when the plane takes off.

When we are plugged into fear of something we automatically get scared when faced with that situation. By saying that we cannot do this or that or we are afraid of something, we close the option of being able to do it or facing it without fear.

Let´s face our fears! Have courage to be able to react in a new way than before, don’t decide in advance that you can’t. Try this by facing something you are afraid of, it doesn’t have to be a big thing for example saying your opinion to someone or telling someone you love them.
